Earlier this month, former UFC bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw appeared on the Fight Society Podcast to discuss his upcoming showdown with reigning bantamweight champ and former teammate Cody Garbrandt. During this segment, Dillashaw explained that he believes his highly publicized beef with Garbrandt is unnecessary, calling their rivalry “comical.”
“The beef with Cody is just comical because it shouldn’t concern him at all,” Dillashaw said. “Just because it involves Urijah [Faber], he wants to get all riled up and fluff out his feathers and act like a tough guy. I expected this from Cody. He’s a hothead and just for him to not really be able to express himself mentally but just get all worked up.”
Shortly after Dillashaw made these comments, Garbrandt responded to BJPenn.com’s write-up on the ordeal on Twitter, suggesting their is more to the story than Dillashaw let on, and accusing the former champ of ending a teammates career with a cheap shot.

“He knows there’s more to the story!” Garbrandt said on Twitter. How about ending one of your teammate’s career you cheap shottin’ mother f*cker!”
When we last saw Garbrandt in action, he nabbed the title from long-time champ Dominick Cruz with a dominant decision win. Prior to this title win, he went 5-0 in his first five fights in the Octagon, defeating Marcus Brimage, Henry Briones, Augusto Mendes, Thomas Almeida and Takeya Mizugaki. He’s now 11-0 overall.
Dillashaw, meanwhile, has rebounded from his title loss to Cruz with back-to-back decision defeats of top contenders Raphael Assuncao and John Lineker. He’s 14-3 in sum.
Before the two fighters meet in the cage, they’ll coach a season of The Ultimate Fighter against one another, and from the sounds of it, it’ll be well worth a watch.
What do you think of this accusation from Cody Garbrandt? Sound off, PENN Nation!
