Chris Weidman reveals he lost his NYSAC appeal regarding controversial UFC 210 loss to Gegard Mousasi

Chris Weidman was not happy but also was not surprised when he got the answer to his appeal to the New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) regarding his controversial loss to Gegard Mousasi at UFC 210.

Speaking on the MMA Hour on Monday, Weidman told Ariel Helwani that he received a letter from the NYSAC saying that his appeal did not go in his favor.

“I just got it back in the mail yesterday,” said Weidman (transcribed by Peter Carroll for MMA Fighting).

“I did not win the appeal. I don’t think it was anything we didn’t expect. I didn’t even read it,” Weidman admitted. “My wife was reading it.”

The NYSAC told Weidman that replays can be used when an injury takes place in the competition.

“I guess when there’s something that happens inside of the Octagon and it has to do with an injury the commission is allowed to look at the replay. I guess, something like that is what it is about.

“The rules that were explained to us are that there was no replay. If something happens where there is an injury they are allowed to look at it. That’s pretty much what I heard from my wife.”

Even with filing the appeal to the commission, the former UFC middleweight champion says his expectations were low on getting the appeal in his favor but put in the effort with his team as the end of his match with Mousasi was so unusual.

“Either way, I didn’t put my eggs in that basket,” he said. “I would’ve been kind of surprised (if they had reversed the decision). For them to admit they were wrong, I would’ve been kind of surprised.”

Chris Weidman vs. Kelvin Gastelum

Chris Weidman’s next fight will again be under the NYSAC as he is signed to take on Kelvin Gastelum at UFC on FOX 25 at the Nassau Coliseum in Long Island, New York on July 22.
