BJ Penn planning to continue fighting with win on Sunday

UFC Hall of Famer BJ Penn is currently preparing to step into the Octagon with UFC veteran Dennis Siver Sunday night in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where he will look to once again have his hand raised in front of fight fans.

Ahead of the fight, many have questioned whether Penn plans to retire from MMA following the fight on Sunday, regardless of whether he wins or loses. While Penn has proven time and time again to have the indomitable spirit of a fighter, he spoke to MMAJunkie ahead of his fight with Siver to reveal that while he briefly considered retirement following his January loss to Yair Rodriguez, he quickly regained his fire to continue fighting:

“Right after the fight I was kind of like, “Uh, maybe this is the end.’ I’m talking 5 minutes, 10 minutes after the fight,” Penn told MMAjunkie. “But actually one of my buddies walked up to me, Leroy Padilla, and he said, ‘B.J., you’ve got to fight again.’ I was like, ‘What are you talking about, man?’ From that moment, over time, one or two days, I was like, ‘Let’s do it again.’

With his former coach Marinovich once again in Penn’s camp leading up to the fight, ‘The Prodigy’ is supremely confident that he will taste victory once again in Oklahoma City. With that being said, many wonder what a BJ Penn victory would mean for the Hall of Famer’s career.

He spoke about his plans following the fight:

“We’re going to take this as far as we can go,” Penn said. “We’re going to do good on Sunday. From there, call (UFC matchmaker) Sean (Shelby) and see what’s going on. … Same thing as last time. I’m doing it because I love it.”

Tune in to Fox Sports 1 Sunday night at 9 p.m. ET, 6 p.m. PST, to watch the fight take place!
