Javy Ayala picked up the biggest win of his mixed martial arts career at last night’s Bellator 212 event, stopping former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir in round two.
After a strong opening round from the Mir, Ayala was able to turn the tide in round two.
Javy was able to split Frank open with a strike early in the second round, a cut which would ultimately caused Mir all sorts of problems.
From there, Javy Ayala would unleash a plethora of punches on Mir, this until the former “baddest man on the planet” was forced to tapout due to strikes.
The setback served as the first submission loss of Frank Mir’s storied career. Mir has now lost four straight fights, and five of his past seven overall.
Meanwhile, Javy Ayala (11-7 MMA) snapped a two-fight losing streak by defeating Frank Mir (18-13 MMA) at Bellator 212 last night in Hawaii.
Many fights fans and analysts assumed that Frank Mir must have suffered an injury (potentially a broken jaw) during last night’s fight with Ayala.
According to Mir’s ‘Phonebooth Fight Podcast’ co-host Richard Hunter, the former UFC heavyweight champion suffered a alveolar ridge fracture during last night’s contest, an injury which ultimately forced Mir to tapout.
I just talked to @thefrankmir & he told me he has an alveolar ridge fracture, which caused the tap. Frank was without his mouthpiece for about about a minute & 1/2 of the 2nd round & that’s where the injury occurred. #BellatorHawaii @BellatorMMA

Also told me he thought it was just his teeth so he was trying to pull them out so he could continue but then the pain went through the roof. This is a rough sport, folks.

The alveolar bone is more commonly known as the tooth socket, and aids with tooth stabilization by encasing your tooth roots. So you can imagine the pain Frank Mir was in yesterday evening in Hawaii.
