Dillon Danis’ return rescheduled for Bellator NYC

Dillon Danis

Dillon Danis will not make his return to the Bellator cage quite as soon as we initially expected.

Danis was originally scheduled to face Max Humphrey on May 11 on the Bellator 221 card in Chicago, however plans have changed. Instead, he will fight June 14 at Bellator NYC in New York against the same opponent in a 175-pound catchweight bout. The 25-year-old announced the switch up on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show Monday.

Danis (1-0) hasn’t fought since his Bellator debut in April 2018. The grappling standout defeated his 2-3 opponent Kyle Walker via first-round toe hold at Bellator 198 in his professional MMA debut. A big reason for his time away from the cage is due to his seven-month suspension from his role in the UFC 229 brawl this past October. Danis and teammate Conor McGregor were involved in a scuffle post-fight with lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and his team.

Humphrey (3-2) made his MMA debut in April 2013 and went 3-6 as an amateur before turning professional in March 2013. He started his career off with back-to-back wins, finishing both of his opponents. In his third pro-bout, the 30-year-old would suffer his first loss to Glory MMA product Zach Long at KC Fighting Alliance 25. He’s since gone 1-1 since that setback, most recently suffering a 16-second knockout to Anthony Goldfield at KC Fighting Alliance 29 in July 2018. Goldfield was 1-1 at the time. Humphrey will be making his Bellator debut.

Bellator NYC takes place at Madison Square Garden on June 14. The main event pits former UFC champion Lyoto Machida against fellow UFC veteran Chael Sonnen in a light heavyweight contest.

Here’s an updated look at the card.

  • Lyoto Machida vs. Chael Sonnen
  • Neiman Gracie – vs. Rory MacDonald/ Jon Fitch winner – For the welterweight title
  • Dillon Danis vs. Max Humphrey
