Bjorn Rebney Comments On Going Head To Head With The UFC

In about 3 months from now, on Sep. 5, the UFC and Bellator MMA will battle it out in Connecticut. Both promotions have an event scheduled for that day, and the venues are 10 miles apart. Bellator’s card will take place at Mohegan Sun on that Friday, which is when Bellator’s fights usually go down. The UFC surprised many they announced that they will put on a card on Friday (they are usually on Saturday) at Foxwoods. So here we go, the two rival promotions will go punch for punch on the same night.

In an article from the Boston Herald by Jack Encarnacao, we get some information about why the UFC chose that date and location and a comment from Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney.

Here’s what a UFC/FOX spokesman had to say:

“Spokesmen for the UFC and Fox — which will televise the UFC’s Sept. 5 card on Fox Sports 1 — said the Foxwoods booking has nothing to do with Bellator. They said the television date was penciled in a year ago for a fight night because Fox Sports 1 has college sports obligations the next night, a Saturday, the night the UFC and Fox prefer to broadcast fights. A Fox spokesman said there are no plans to move the UFC on a more permanent basis to Friday nights.”

Rebney also made a comment regarding the head to head match with the UFC:

“If you’re watching MMA on TV,” Rebney said, “the innovative industry leader is Spike TV and if you’re going to go enjoy a world class event in Connecticut there’s only one place to go and that’s Mohegan Sun.”

So what do you think fight fans? Who’s going to come out on top here and if you had to would you chose Bellator or the UFC? Let’s hear it.
