A heavyweight bout featuring former UFC champion Frank Mir taking on Javy Ayala served as the co-headliner of tonight’s Bellator 212 event in Hawaii.
Frank Mir made his Bellator debut back in April, where he suffered a first-round TKO loss to Fedor Emelianenko.
The former UFC heavyweight champion has gone 2-3 over his past five fights, scoring wins over Antonio Silva and Todd Duffee during that span.
Meanwhile, Jany Ayala (10-7 MMA) will also be entering tonight’s contest looking to rebound, this after suffering a first-round knockout loss to Cheick Kongo at Bellator 199.
Frank Mir scored a couple of nice takedowns and utilized some solid pressure to control the opening round of action.
In round two, Javy Ayala was able to turn momentum in his favor after scoring a strike that split Frank Mir open. Ayala peppered Mir with strikes, but the always-tough former champion remained in the pocket firing off punches of his own. Eventually the strikes from Ayala proved to much for Mir to handle, as the former UFC heavyweight champion opted to tapout.
