Bellator NYC Results: Wanderlei Silva vs. Chael Sonnen
A scrap between bitter rivals Wanderlei Silva and Chael Sonnen served as the main event of tonight’s “Bellator NYC” fight card in New York.
Round one begins and Wanderlei lands a leg kick to start. Sonnen immediately shoots in and scores a double leg takedown. He presses Wanderlei against the fence and begins raining down some nasty right hands. Chael gets in a good elbow now. Silva needs to do something here. Chael begins to work the body. He postures up and this just misses with an attempted right hand. Silva scrambles and gets back up to his feet. Chael is still glued to him but Silva is able to shake him off. Wanderlei connects with a right hand and Sonnen drops. Silva immediately follows Sonnen to the ground and begins working some ground and pound. Chael is able to scramble back to his feet and then immediately shoots for a takedown. Wanderlei grabs a hold of his neck and drops for a guillotine choke. Chael escapes the hold and winds up on top. He works some elbows to close out round one.

Round two begins and Chael comes out with a flying knee attempt that misses. He throws a left but Wandy avoids. Silva connects with a right hand and Chael shoots in for a takedown. Once again Wanderlei grabs a hold of his neck and drops for a guillotine choke. Chael is trapped in this position but doesn’t look to be in trouble of getting submitted. The referee stands them up and Chael instantly shoots in and scores a double leg takedown. Good shots to the rib cage of Silva here by Sonnen. He postures up and lands a right hand. He works in some short lefts from the full guard position. Just over a minute remains. More short shots from Sonnen land before the horn sounds to end round two.
Round three begins and Wanderlei is able to land a right hand early. Chael didn’t like that and so he quickly drops down and shoots for a double leg takedown. He gets it. Sonnen moves to half guard and begins working on an arm lock. He switches to some short elbows. Sonnen switches back in hopes of securing a kimura. Wanderlei quickly defends the attempt. Chael moves to full mount. That position is short lived as Wanderlei quickly scrambles back to half guard. Chael with more short shots to end the round.
