Rory MacDonald Refutes ‘Completely False’ Reports of His Long Suspension

Rory MacDonald

It should be no surprise to anyone that Rory MacDonald and Douglas Lima had an absolute war at Bellator 192. The damage inflicted by both men was something to behold. Attention after the fight was over was drawn towards MacDonalds severely swollen leg and possible injuries he may have endured on his grueling battle towards winning the Bellator welterweight title. Reports were released containing all the medical suspensions from Bellator 192, which stated the former UFC fighter would be out for at least six months. However, Rory MacDonald just took to social media to dismiss this news.

“There are reports of me being suspended for a lengthy amount of time due to fractures in one of my hands and my leg. This is completely false. I never injured my hand at all and my left leg is not fractured, I did an X-Ray the night of fight and showed it is only a hematoma.” — Rory MacDonald today on Twitter.

“Hard to compare a physical pain, I’d say this [leg injury from Lima] was the worst, for sure. I would say this one was the worst as far as pain goes. I was definitely emotional, especially going through a fight like that for the belt. It was a special moment for me, because I got to push those mental barriers to get to this championship. It was a nice feeling. It was a hard fight, it was a close one. It was something I really appreciated and I’ll always remember.”Rory MacDonald speaking to Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour.

The original report for Bellator 192 suspensions had Rory MacDonald on a mandatory seven day suspension, then  suspended for 180 days with 180 days no contact unless cleared by doctor for possible fracture to right hand and right lower leg. As well as being suspended for 45 days with 30 days no contact for precautionary reasons. MacDonald reveals he does not indeed have anything wrong with his hands and his leg protrusion was simply a hematoma. While he will still endure some sort of medical suspension, it looks like it won’t be as long as some reports suggested.
