UFC investigating middleweight Alex Nicholson over domestic violence arrest

UFC middleweight Alex Nicholson cannot seem to stay out of hot water.

In August, Nicholson was reprimanded for racial slurs directed at Hyun Gyu Lim while cornering Mike Perry at UFC 202.

Now, the UFC is investigating ‘The Spartan’ following a May 2016 arrest for domestic violence out a 7-Eleven store in Orlando Florida:

“UFC reviewed the matter in question and noted that the State Attorney of Florida declined to proceed with a case against Alex Nicholson, and the case was dismissed,” the UFC statement read. “UFC takes allegations of domestic violence very seriously and will refer all information to a third-party law firm for additional review. UFC is committed to thoroughly exploring all allegations and taking appropriate actions following the completion of a third-party investigation.”

Although the alleged victim, Nicholson’s fiancé of two years, declined to answer questions from police, and despite the fact that the Florida State Attorney’s Office did not pursue charges against him, the UFC is still investigating the claims through a third-party private investigator, as they have done with all domestic violence incidents in the past, most recently Travis Browne.

“The trial was set for Aug. 2,” prosecutor Angela Starke told MMA Fighting in an e-mail. “The victim told us she couldn’t make that date, so we asked the judge to move it to the following day. She was aware the trial date was moved by one day to accommodate her as her testimony was crucial to the case. At trial, she did not appear.”

The 26-year-old Nicholson (7-2) is slated to square off with Sam Alvey at UFC Fight Night 97 in October.
