Gennady Golovkin issues statement after controversial split draw with Canelo Alvarez

Gennady Golovkin GGG

Last night the highly anticipated middleweight showdown between Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin took place under the bright lights of T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The fight lived up to the hype, as Canelo and ‘GGG’ engaged in a back and forth twelve-round war.

Unfortunately, the fight was ruled a split draw after some bizarre scoring from the judges overseeing the contest.

One judge, Don Trella, ruled the fight a draw with a 114-114 scorecard.

Judge Dave Moretti had the bout 115-113 in favor of Gennady Golovkin, which seemed to be the general consensus of fight fans who for the most part had ‘GGG’ winning a close decision.

Then there was the scorecard of judge Adelaide Byrd, who somehow managed to score the contest 118-110 in favor of Canelo Alvarez.

While the fight was definitely a closely contested match, there is NO WAY that Canelo Alvarez won ten rounds in the fight. (See the Twitter reactions here)

With that said, Golovkin still retained his WBC, IBF, WBA, and IBO middleweight titles, while Canelo Alvarez retained his lineal championship.

Shortly following his epic slugfest with Canelo, ‘GGG’ took to Twitter where he issued the following statement.

“The world knows #andstill Thanks to all my fans from all over the world for your support. It means a lot for me.” – Gennady Golovkin
