Throughout the course of 2017, there have been several developments regarding a potential Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather boxing match.

To start the year off, Mayweather offered McGregor $15 million to fight in a boxing match. McGregor remained quiet on the matter, however UFC President Dana White was quick to counter Mayweather’s offer, offering the undefeated prizefighter $25 million to fight. Mayweather scoffed at White’s offer, reiterating that he wouldn’t fight for less than $100 million.

This was followed up by a pay-per view interview from McGregor, during which he stated that he and Mayweather needed to sit down in a room to negotiate the matchup. In addition, the UFC superstar stated that he didn’t need the UFC to promoted the boxing match. Dana White was quick to fire back, warning the lightweight champion that promoting the bout without the UFC would be an “epic fall”.

In early February however, talks escalated when a report surfaced that Mayweather and McGregor had reached an agreement on the terms for a potential scrap. Now, according to ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith, Mayweather has reportedly told him that in regards to a potential Conor McGregor fight: “we’re getting very, very close”.
