Two top-15 bantamweights are set to throw down in Greenville, South Carolina.
Sources tell BJPENN.com that Cody Stamann and Rob Font have verbally agreed to fight on June 22. The two have been going back-and-forth on Twitter accusing one another of not agreeing to the fight, but now people close to the situation have confirmed that the bout is verbally agreed to and contracts should be coming any day now.
Stamann is coming off a unanimous decision win over Alejandro Perez at UFC 235. That victory got him back into the win column, as Cody had lost his most previous bout with Aljamain Sterling via submission. Before the loss to Sterling, the 11th ranked bantamweight, Stamann, had put together a ten fight win streak. That impressive stretch included notable wins over the likes of Bryan Caraway, Tom Duquesnoy and Terrion Ware among others.
Font also got back into the win column in his last fight out, where he picked up a unanimous decision win over Sergio Pettis. Before that the 12th ranked bantamweight was coming off a loss to Raphael Assuncao by decision. Font holds notable wins over Thomas Almeida and Matt Schnell among others.
UFC Greenville is set to go down on June 22 at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena.
