Rules, weight revealed for Floyd Mayweather vs. Tenshin Nasukawa bout

Floyd Mayweather, Tenshin Nasukawa

Ever since it was first reported that undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather will battle undefeated kickboxing sensation Tenshin Nasukawa in Tokyo on New Years Eve, we’ve all been wondering what the rules of the bout will be. Mayweather has repeatedly stated it will be a boxing-only exhibition match, but many members of the MMA community have expressed doubt about this.

Well, now we have some clarity.

On Thursday night, Mayweather’s Swanson Communications public relations team released the official rules for the bout. Apparently, it will indeed be boxing only, though it will be full contact competition — which implies a knockout is possible. That being said, the bout will not go on either man’s record.

The official weight for this bout was also revealed. The pair will meet at 147lbs.

Here are the official details for the Floyd Mayweather vs. Tenshin Nasukawa fight on New Years Eve.

The attraction will be based on the following rules and regulations:

  • Three minutes per round for three rounds
  • Straight boxing rules
  • Both will wear RIZIN 8 ounce gloves
  • Weight: 147lbs/67.7kg
  • No judges
  • This will be full contact competition, but the bout is not going on boxing or MMA records

In his last fight, a 2017 defeat of Conor McGregor, Floyd Mayweather weighed in at 154 pounds. Tenshin Nasukawa weighed in at 127.9 for his last fight, a September kickboxing match with Kyoji Horiguchi, but has fought even lighter in the past. Needless to say, he will likely be the much lighter man in the ring on New Years Eve, and will also be at a three-inch heigh disadvantage.

Based on the ruleset for this bout, who do you think will come out on top in this Floyd Mayweather vs. Tenshin Nasukawa exhibition bout at Rizin 14 on New Years Eve in Tokyo? Make your pick in the comments section below.
