Demetrious Johnson on TJ Dillashaw vs. Henry Cejudo superfight: “Let them do it”

Demetrious Johnson

At UFC 227, TJ Dillashaw defended the UFC bantamweight title with a first-round drubbing of his rival Cody Garbrandt. Earlier on the same night, Henry Cejudo scored a shocking upset, unseating long-dominant UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson via split decision.

Since then, there’s been much discussion about a potential superfight between the two champions. If this fight were to occur, of course, it would seem like a bit of a slap in the face to Johnson. He was the most dominant champion in UFC history, he lost the title via split decision, and he holds a 2016 knockout win over Cejudo. He deserves an immediate rematch with Cejudo.

That being said, Demetrious Johnson seems to be ok with the idea of a Dillashaw vs. Cejudo fight.

Speaking on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show on Monday, he essentially gave the booking his seal of approval. The reason, he says, is because he’s confident he’ll perform well no matter who, and when, he fights next.

“I think it’s good for them,” Johnson said (transcript via Sherdog.com). “If that’s what they want to do, let them do it, you know? I think I read somewhere TJ said when he was weight-cutting he hit 133, so if he wants to do it, have him do it. I don’t think there’s nothing wrong with it at all. Let them do what they wanna do, dawg. That’s them.”

“I’m not worried about because I know I’m gonna be successful wherever I’m at,” he continued. “Whether it’s me not getting a fair shake…at the end of the day, that’s something my management is gonna have to deal with because I don’t talk to the UFC brass because I can’t hold back my emotions, and I keep it real.”

Who do you want to see Demetrious Johnson fight next?
