EXCLUSIVE | Yancy Medeiros shares classic story about drinking with Nick Diaz

Yancy Medeiros

All-action Hawaiian welterweight Yancy Medeiros, who battles Mike Perry at UFC 226 this July 7, is a close friend of welterweight legend Nick Diaz. Speaking on the latest episode of BJ Penn Radio, Medeiros discussed the possibility of the elder Diaz brother returning to the Octagon after his four-year hiatus—and ultimately wound up telling a pretty funny Nick Diaz drinking story.

“I bet he’d pull [fans] in and still sell seats,” Medeiros said of a possible Nick Diaz comeback. “That’s how relevant he is in this MMA game. I haven’t personally talked to him [about a comeback]. Whatever Nick does, he’s great at it. Whatever it is. If he puts his heart, his mind and soul into it, he’s top notch, one of the best in it. When it comes to jiu jitsu, when it comes to boxing, whatever it is, man, he’s so good at keeping to that… triathlons. Even partying if you wanted to. You can’t out-drink Nick. He’ll make you go to sleep, brother. The first time I ever got drunk, blacked out, was at Nick’s. He freaking Jedi mind tricked me man. I swear, he just kept passing me Jameson. Boom, boom, boom! Next thing I know, I woke up in the shower, naked.’

“If he wants to fight, he’s gonna fight, that’s the thing,” Medeiros continued, circling back to a potential Nick Diaz comeback. “And I don’t know if that’s something he wants right now. I haven’t talked to him for a while. He’s doing his own thing right now. I’m trying to get to his status, get big and make my money and do what I gotta do to get out there. I just feel like whoever they put against Nick, it’s a win for him. Because Nick is mainstream.”

What do you think of Yancy Medeiros’s comments on Nick Diaz?
