Last month, long-time UFC lightweight contender Michael Johnson announced his intention to drop to the 145-pound featherweight division, where he hoped to find a fresh start.
After sharing this news, Johnson began angling for a fight with former UFC featherweight champion and bona fide MMA great Jose Aldo. Unfortunately for him, Aldo was then linked to a potential rematch with Ricardo Lamas.
From there, Johnson turned his attention to all-action featherweight contender Cub Swanson. Yet once again, his desired opponent slipped through his fingers, as Swanson announced this morning that he’s taking on Brian Ortega in the main event of the UFC’s December 9 debut in Fresno, California.
Needless to say, Michael Johnson is having a bit of a tough time finding a willing dance partner. From the looks of it, however, he’s still in good spirits. Early on Monday morning, the former lightweight contender took to Instagram to share his reaction to all of his “first choices” at featherweight getting booked.
“This is my reaction to my first featherweight choices getting booked,” Johnson said in his post. “Ain’t no thang, who wants it?”
Though Johnson seems to be taking a laissez-faire approach to his run at featherweight, his quest for a willing opponent will continue.
At the moment, the top-15 featherweights who are currently unbooked are: Chan Sung Jung, Yair Rodriguez, Jeremy Stephens, Darren Elkins, Renato Moicano, Dennis Bermudez, Doo Ho Choi, Mirsad Bektic, Myles Jury and Jason Knight. Which of these dangerous fighters do you want to see Michael Johnson fight?
