Over the last few months, the potential comeback of MMA legend Chuck Liddell has been repeatedly been discussed. Were this potential comeback to occur, it would likely go down in the Bellator cage, rather than the UFC’s Octagon, where Liddell became a legend.

Chael Sonnen, who has recently battled other aging legends in Tito Ortiz and Wanderlei Silva, has repeatedly tried to goad Liddell into a fight, and Liddell seems to be interested. Bellator boss Scott Coker has also seemed to have an open mind about promoting a Chuck Liddell comeback.

In a recent interview with MMAJunkie.com, however, Coker pumped the brakes on all the Liddell talk, suggesting that the 47-year-old legend would have to run a gauntlet of medical tests before any potential comeback were to occur.

“I’d have to talk to Viacom about it,” Coker said. “He’d have to go through a battery of tests, and it would be a longer process than he would be fighting in January.”

“I’ve got to reach out and see if (Liddell would) like to do some fan fest stuff for us and be in the community, but that’s it,” Coker said. “There’s no fight for him.”

Chuck Liddell has not fought since 2010, when he was knocked out by Rich Franklin. This knockout loss was preceded by brutal knockout losses to Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and Rashad Evans. Though he won his next most recent fight, battling Wanderlei Silva to a decision in the 2007 Fight of the Year, he lost his two previous fights, giving up a decision to Keith Jardine and being KO’d by Quinton “Rampage” Jackson.
