The MMA community was struck with appalling news late Thursday.

With less than 24 hours away from the UFC 215 weigh-ins, the main event UFC flyweight title fight between Demetrious Johnson and Ray Borg was canceled. The cancellation, first reported by Ariel Helwani for MMA Fighting, was due to Borg being ill and deemed unfit to compete by medical doctors.

On Friday, the UFC released the following message regarding Borg’s condition and the process of UFC 215 ticket refunds:

Due to a viral illness to UFC flyweight contender Ray Borg, the main event bout against champion Demetrious Johnson at UFC 215 has been cancelled. Borg was deemed unfit to compete by the UFC medical team.

UFC 215, which is now headlined by the women’s bantamweight championship between Amanda Nunes and Valentina Shevchenko, will proceed as scheduled with 11 bouts at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Canada. Moving to the Pay-Per-View main card will be the flyweight bout between Henry Cejudo and Wilson Reis. Additionally, the Mitch Clarke and Alex White lightweight contest will now kick off the FS1 prelims.

With the removal of Johnson vs. Borg, customers may request a full refund of purchased tickets at point of sale.

Demetrious Johnson had the opportunity to make history at UFC 215. If victorious in the flyweight title fight, Johnson would have set a new record for most consecutive title defenses in UFC history. Currently, Johnson and Anderson Silva are tied for the record for most consecutive title defenses with 10 each.

Amanda Nunes and Valentina Shevchenko will get the chance to star in a pay-per-view main event title fight once again. Nunes pulled out of their scheduled UFC 213 main event on the day of the competition back in July due to feeling ill.
