VIDEO | Conor McGregor announces career as horse-racing jockey in hilarious promo

It’s no secret that Conor McGregor is one of the greatest fighters on earth. Having won the UFC featherweight title from Jose Aldo in December of 2015, he then went on to clobber Eddie Alvarez to win the organization’s lightweight title in November of 2016. With this defeat of Alvarez, he became the first fighter in UFC history to hold titles in two weight classes concurrently.

Then of course, there are his numerous records, which range from his earning the fastest finish in UFC title fight history, to his headlining several of the highest selling pay-per-views in the company’s history.

McGregor has become such a successful mixed martial artist that he has recently toyed with the idea of a jump to boxing – perhaps even for a battle with retired boxing great Floyd Mayweather.

Apparently, however, McGregor’s sporting ambition extends far beyond the combat sports world. In a recent clip uploaded to his official Twitter, McGregor announces that he will be kicking off a career as a horse racing jockey, and competing for a prize of $12 million at the Pegasus World Cup.

“Alexander wept when he had no more worlds to conquer,” McGregor says in this clip. “That’s exactly how I feel. Today, I would like to announce to the world that I will become the pound-for-pound number one jockey on the planet with the help of my new trainer.”

“That would be me,” a cigar-smoking Jon Lovitz then chimes in.

This, of course, is a promo for the Pegasus World Cup, “the world’s richest thoroughbred race,” which occurs at Gulfstream Park in Florida on January 28. Though the race’s winner will indeed pocket a whopping $12 million, McGregor will obviously not really be participating.

Earlier this year, McGregor set the record for the biggest fight purse in UFC history at $3 million. It is rumored, however, that once pay-per-view points are factored in, he pocketed something in the area of $15 million for his August rematch with Nate Diaz.
