In the main event of the TUF 24 Finale, UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson proved once again why he is the pound for pound kingpin as he secured a unanimous decision win over Tim Elliot.

In the first round, it appeared as though Elliot would pull off an incredible upset as his extremely unorthodox striking resulted in him landing several major blows on the champ, even dropping him at one point. Throughout rounds two through five however, Johnson’s brilliant fight IQ resulted in a dominant performance as the champ repeatedly took the challenger down, controlling him, and launching numerous submission attempts. To his credit, Elliot showed incredible defense on the ground as he defended against the submission attempts, escaping every time and initiating scrambles.

Ultimately however, it was a unanimous decision for Johnson, who made it nine straight title defenses with the win over Elliot, tying Georges St-Pierre’s record for the second most title defenses in UFC history.

For Elliot, while he may have lost, he earned the admiration of fans, with those in attendance even going as far as to chant Elliot’s name several times throughout the fight as he showed the heart of a champion repeatedly.
