EXCLUSIVE | The Korean Zombie explains his decision to callout BJ Penn

The Korean Zombie Chan Sung Jung, Ji Yeon Kim

Former UFC featherweight title challenger Chan Sung Jung is quickly closing in on the end of the two years of mandatory military service he was required to serve as a citizen of South Korea.

Jung was most recently seen in action at UFC 163 in May of 2012, where he suffered a fourth-round TKO loss to Jose Aldo in his bid for the featherweight title. Prior to the setback, the Korean standout had scored three-straight stoppage wins in a row which included victories over Dustin Poirier, Mark Hominick and Leonard Garcia.

“The Korean Zombie” recently spoke with host Chris Taylor on BJPENN.com’s ‘Rapid Fire’ segment where he discussed his upcoming UFC return and why he decided to callout UFC Hall of Famer BJ Penn for his next fight.

Chan Sung Jung, who recently became a father, stated that it feels like “a new beginning” since he moved from his 20’s to his 30’s. Taylor asked how fatherhood has played a role in that.

“It’s changed my outlook a lot. Being a father changes everything. I used to fight because that’s what I like doing, but now I’m fighting for my kids.”

UFC On Fuel TV: Korean Zombie v Poirier

“The Korean Zombie” recently called out UFC legend BJ Penn for his return fight. Taylor asked why he picked BJ Penn in particular for his comeback fight and how Jung envisioned the potential scrap playing out.

“Outside of rankings and all of that, I’ve always wanted to fight BJ because he’s BJ. He’s a legend in the sport. I think the two of us fighting would be a great fight for the fans. It would be an exciting fight.”

He continued.

“I do think I would win the fight. I’m going into every fight thinking that I will win.”

Who would you like to see “The Korean Zombie” square off with when he returns to the octagon in early 2017? Sound off PENN Nation!
