JDS on professional boxing: “That would be my paradise!”

Junior dos Santos

Not many fighters have better hands than Junior ‘Cigano’ dos Santos. The Brazilian slugger has 12 knockout victories to his name, and has put down some of the heavyweight division’s best with his hands alone. ‘Cigano’ blasted on to the scene with an uppercut knockout of eventual champion Fabricio Werdum, and showed off his slick boxing in knockouts of Cain Velasquez, Frank Mir, and Stefan Struve, amongst many others.

Dos Santos even was a color commentator during the Brazilian Olympic boxing broadcast in Rio.

But how would dos Santos fare in the boxing ring? The heavyweight contender considered the idea on Tuesday’s episode of the MMA Hour.

“That would be paradise for me, not having to worry about takedowns, Jiu Jitsu, that would be home for me. I love boxing, I think I could do very well.

“Everyone knows I’m a boxing guy (in MMA). But I couldn’t do that right now. However when I was champ, I did challenge Wladmir Klitschko.”

“I love MMA, and I cannot start a career in boxing right now, there are too many (boxing) promotions, it’s a whole different world. (But) if I get a great opportunity, I would consider it.”

‘Cigano’ is awaiting an opponent at the moment, but was able to get his career on track with a win over the surging Ben Rothwell after a disappointing knockout loss to Alistair Overeem. The former champion will be watching UFC 203 live with baited interest to see the outcome of Stipe Miocic against Overeem, one of which he defeated and the other who defeated him.

“I wI’ll be at UFC 203, “ ‘Cigano’ said on the MMA Hour. “I can’t wait to see everything go down.”

What do you think, PENN Nation? Would JDS’s hands translate well into boxing? Sound off in the comment section!
