Tragic news surfaced Wednesday afternoon that former PRIDE FC champion Wanderlei Silva had been hit by a car on his way home from the gym and would need to undergo surgery.

While details weren’t given as to the nature of the injury to Silva’s shoulder, it was asked that fans pray for Silva as he underwent surgery.

A statement was released through his Facebook page which translates to:

Please note that the Wand had an accident where he was hit by a car when he was returning by bicycle to his home after a workout, he ended up injuring his shoulder and undergoes surgery today. We ask your prayers for our champion. ASCOM

This comes just over a week after Bellator MMA prospect Jordan Parsons was struck and killed by a vehicle on his way home from training.
