In the aftermath of UFC 196, where Conor McGregor was submitted by Nate Diaz in the main event, McGregor revealed that he plans to return to featherweight to defend his UFC championship.

In the week following UFC 196, UFC President Dana White visited with McGregor, and it was determined that McGregor would still be fighting at UFC 200 despite the loss to Diaz.

Given that McGregor plans to defend his UFC championship, there was immediately talk of whether he would defend the belt against Jose Aldo or Frankie Edgar.

While Aldo had been the only featherweight champion in UFC history, Dana White has pointed out that the first time the UFC booked Aldo vs. McGregor, Aldo backed out; and when the pair did fight, Aldo lost in 13 seconds.

Combine that with the fact that White promised Frankie Edgar a title shot after he knocked out Chad Mendes at the TUF 22 finale, and Edgar’s 5-fight win streak, and he makes a strong case for a title.

In a recent interview White revealed that there was a meeting among the UFC brass in regards to matchups for UFC 200. In addition, he may have hinted that the UFC is looking to book McGregor vs. Edgar for UFC 200.
