This past Saturday, UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor moved up to welterweight to fight Nate Diaz in the main event of UFC 196 after UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos withdrew from the bout with a broken foot.

Ultimately, McGregor gassed in the 2nd round, something he chalked up to an inefficient use of energy, which resulted in Nate Diaz getting the submission win.

Following the bout there was much speculation as to McGregor’s future plans given that despite the loss he remains the UFC featherweight champion. At the post-fight press conference McGregor revealed that he planned to return to featherweight to defend his championship, likely at UFC 200.

UFC President Dana White spoke in an interview to reveal that he has met with McGregor, and that the featherweight champ wants to fight as soon as possible.
