Former UFC welterweight champion Johny Hendricks never fought in his previously scheduled fight at UFC 192 with Tyron Woodley due to weight cutting issues. Hendricks was hospitalized with a kidney stone and intestinal blockage in efforts to make the 170-pound welterweight limit.

After Hendricks recovered from the horrid incident, people, as well as Hendricks himself did not know if he would compete at welterweight again. Now, with a new nutritionist Lou Giordano apparently helping with his diet, Hendricks’ current opponent Stephen Thompson doesn’t seem to be worried about issues of making weight for their bout at UFC 196.

Thompson spoke with Bloody Elbow on the weighty issues of Hendricks and has confidence that he will fight his scheduled opponent at welterweight:

“I found out before we were even matched up that he had hired a guy with his weight cut. The guy [Giordano] who he hired knows what he’s doing.” Thompson told Bloody Elbow.

“I wasn’t worried about it just because I know that if he didn’t hire a nutritionist that he would have to make weight at 185 lbs. He obviously wants to prove a point that he can make weight at 170, so I know for a fact that he’s going to make weight.”
