Conor McGregor: I’ll believe Croke Park when I see it

Dublin, Ireland's Conor McGregor

UFC Interim Featherweight Champion Conor McGregor is has a loyal following that he brings with them regardless of where his fights take place. Whether it’s his diehard Irish fans that bring a nation’s worth of support with him or his haters wanting to see him get knocked out, fans spend their hard earned cash to see him step into the octagon.

McGregor’s last four fights have taken place on American soil, but the last time fought in Ireland it was a sight to behold. Just over 9,000 fans packed into the O2 Arena to watch him decimate Diego Brandao in less than five minutes and couldn’t have been happier with the result. UFC President Dana White has teased a return to Ireland for McGregor in Croke Park, but McGregor thinks he will be fighting in Las Vegas for quite some time.

“I’ll believe Croke Park when I see it,” McGregor told Severe MMA. “I know they say this and they say that but I feel I might be locked into the MGM for a while. I feel the MGM want me every time because of what we bring so I’ll believe Croke Park when I see it…. I feel what I done in Las Vegas in July and what the Irish people done — we brought $200 million in revenue to that city – it helped seal the deal on the new MGM deal for the UFC.”

McGregor will be looking to unify his interim featherweight championship with Jose Aldo at UFC 194 when they finally clashed in one of the most anticipated bouts of the year. The two were scheduled to meet in the octagon at UFC 189, but a rib injury forced Aldo out of the bout just weeks before the fight took place.
