Is Ronda Rousey a role model?

Ronda Rousey

UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey is an extremely polarizing figure. While some support Rousey and her ‘tell it like it is’ attitude, others can’t help but turn the other cheek when Rousey occasionally makes a comment that comes across as harsh.

While every fighter has critics, Rousey appears to have more than most given her incredible self confidence.

Given the recent criticism of the champ we decided to take a look at some of the positive things Rousey has done with her time in the spotlight.

– Back in 2013 after her first successful UFC title defense, Rousey did a charity event for Didi Hirsch Mental Health Services which raised $11,800. Of the nearly $12,000 raised, Rousey donated $5,000.

– After Rousey’s ‘D.N.B.’ (Do Nothing B**ch) comment went viral earlier this year, Rousey sold ‘D.N.B.’ shirts for charity, with a portion of proceeds going to the Didi Hirsch Mental Health Services Center.

– In March of 2015 Rousey donated $30,000 to the Reaction Institute in Brazil, which uses Judo as a way to help students grow physically and cognitively. Following her UFC 190 win over Bethe Correia, Rousey donated the championship belt she defended to the same Judo school.

These are just some of the examples of how Rousey has used her fame and time as champion to give back, and of course there are other instances where Rousey has shown her generous tendencies.
