McGregor: Aldo is Done, He Doesn’t Deserve to Be Spoken About

Considering his style, many expected Conor McGregor to call out Jose Aldo after his fight so they could settle who the real UFC Featherweight Champion is. McGregor claims that Aldo is all but a distant memory at this moment, though.

“I said I would KO him within 2 rounds. I put a friendly wager with my business partners, and I succeeded,” McGregor said of his second-round TKO of Mendes. “I’m going to put Jose at a distant memory right now.”

“I don’t think he deserves to be spoken about here. He didn’t show up,” McGregor continued at the post-fight press conference. “This was the event that we built, and he should have made that walk. I thank Chad for making that walk for showing up, but in my opinion Jose is done.”

Conor McGregor was originally scheduled to challenge champion Jose Aldo for his featherweight championship in the main-event of Saturday’s card. Two weeks before the fight took place, however, Aldo was forced to withdraw from the fight due to a rib injury. Chad Mendes was inked as a last-minute replacement and fought McGregor for the interim UFC Featherweight Championship.

“When Jose pulled out and didn’t mention nothing about the fans, and starts supporting Chad like weird little buddies, that left a bad bad taste in my mouth,” he said. “I couldn’t do that. I showed up. I respect the people who sacrificed their money and their time.”

If asked by UFC President Dana White, McGregor would ink the deal to fight Aldo in a heartbeat. However, fresh off his big win, all the new champion wants to do is bask in the glory of his successes.

“If it comes around, we’ll discuss it then, but right now this is my night. This is Ireland’s night. SBG, my family, this is our night.”
