Former UFC welterweights and Hall of Fame inducted fighters spoke about their era of MMA and the issue of drug use.
Here’s what they had to say to MMAJunkie:
Former UFC welterweight Frank Trigg on steroid use during his era:
“I come from a background where we wrestled guys who were on drugs. It was just part of the game. The same thing happened when I fought – when I fought a guy on drugs, it didn’t make a difference. I was better than they were. But it’s just not something I did when I was competing.”
Former UFC welterweight champion Matt Hughes on drug testing:
“I do think there are people in my era who people say are great that were cheats. We did have rules back then, we did have drug testing, but I don’t think the drugs were as prevalent as they are now.”
