It’s been a crazy year for the sport of Mixed Martial Art, and we’re only one month in.
Super heroes of the sport are falling from their pedestals, but not in the Octagon.
In the latest bit of news, the widely regarded, Greatest Fighter Of All Time (GOAT), Anderson Silva was revealed to have tested positive for the anabolic steroid, Drostanolone. And now, according to new reports, the former UFC middleweight champion tested positive for a second Performance Enhancing Drug as well.
MMAfighting.com has it:
Anderson Silva not only tested positive for Drostanolone metabolites in a Jan. 9 out-of-competition drug test, but traces of the banned substance Androstane were also found within the legendary champion’s system, according to Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC) executive director Bob Bennett.
Drostanolone is a common form of anabolic steroid. Androstane is a form of endogenous steroid hormone. Both substances are banned according to World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) code.
Nick Diaz, who was Anderson Silva’s UFC 183 opponent, also failed a drug test, but for marijuana. In the UFC 182 main event, just a few weeks prior, Jon Jones tested positive for cocaine in a pre-fight drug test.
While both Silva and Jones were tested one-month prior to their bouts, they were both fought without issue.
