The lightweight champ Rafael dos Anjos lit up Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone last night headlining at FOX 17. The Kings MMA fighter applied his usual pressure but a left hook and knee to the body followed by a flurry of unanswered punches forced Herb Dean to end the contest giving dos Anjos his first successful title defense.
For Cerrone, the loss wasn’t just for the lightweight strap, but for a highly anticipated match-up that probably won’t materialize with featherweight champion Conor McGregor due to the loss. With such a long line of fighters wanting a crack at McGregor, a loss for any top 5 fighter in either lightweight or featherweight will miss “The Money Train” with McGregor.
