The verdict is in: Nick Diaz has been suspended for five years by the Nevada State Athletic Commission for failing one of his UFC 183 post fight drug tests. Diaz’s legal team and the commission went at it for over two hours on Monday afternoon and when it was all said and done, it was the NSAC who made an example of Diaz for testing positive for marijuana metabolites.
His opponent, Anderson Silva also failed his drug test for UFC 183 when he came up positive for performance enhancing drugs. Silva was suspended by the commission for just a year and was fined $380,000.
UFC fighters and MMA personalities around the world are irate and have taken to Twitter to #FreeNickDiaz. Check it out!
If fighters want to take a stand , refuse to fight in Nevada. There will be nobody to take money from. #FreeNickDiaz

Damn. Huge got burned before the new levels administered for marijuana use, from what I remember. 5yrs, and 500k?! That's harsh and wrong!

I've been saying the industry of Mma supports steroids for years, wants the fighters on them, this is just another confirmation.
— Cole Miller (@colemillerATT) September 14, 2015
Diaz' attorney Lucas Middlebrook says of course they will appeal. "It was a personal vendetta suspension by the NSAC." — #freenickdiaz

I don't support any drug use AT ALL but @nickdiaz209 gets 5 year ban for weed and others only getting 1 year for steroids? #thatsnotright
— Chad Laprise (@ChadLaprise) September 14, 2015
No marijuana allowed in Nevada. The NAC will "weed" you out of a job.
— Cole Miller (@colemillerATT) September 14, 2015
Even other personalities from around the world of mixed martial arts had to chime in!
I am disgusted by the actions of the NAC. Time to form a NATIONAL governing body to oversee all combat sports! #FreeNickDiaz

— Shannon Knapp (@shanknapp) September 14, 2015
I personally feel that Nick Diaz getting what amounts to a lifetime ban for a non-PED is absolutely insane!! Out of touch with reality
— Jimmy Smith (@jimmysmithmma) September 14, 2015
