Tony Ferguson has been on a mean streak in the UFC’s lightweight division putting in 7 straight as he finished Edson Barboza via (Braba Choke) in the second round of the contest. In the last 7 years Ferguson’s only loss came by the hands of Michael “The Mencace” Johnson back in 2012.
“El Cucuy” is one of two surging lightweights that smashed into the top ten, the Hawaiian Max Holloway being the other. Holloway has been on a tear winning 8 straight in two years.
Depending if Ferguson can continue with more big wins under his belt, he may get a foot in the door for a scrap for gold. Holloway on the other hand, in the featherweight division has a history and a score to settle with the Irishman making his rematch one with a good back story behind it.
Conor McGregor no doubt will move up to lightweight, it’s not a matter of if, just a matter of when. With every lightweight itching not just a shot at gold but a hefty payday, Ferguson is going to have to wait in line like the rest.
