Pettis Talks Eddie Alvarez: ‘I Don’t Think He’s Even A Challenge’

Eddie Alvarez

Former UFC lightweight champion Anthony ‘Showtime’ Pettis will be returning from a 10-month layoff to face former Bellator champ Eddie Alvarez.

It will be the first time Pettis has fought since losing a one-sided decision to now current champ Rafael dos Anjos, in a fight where Pettis looked anything but his normal self. During a recent fan Q&A for UFC 192, Pettis talked a little bit about that performance and said that from now on he’s going to work and train on what he does best, instead of worrying about his opponents strength, like he did against Dos Anjos.

“I’m going to go back to focusing on what I’m good at; last fight I was trying to focus on watching the wrestling and all that stuff. When I’m out there focusing on what I’m going to do and not what they’re going to do, I feel like I have the best results. Obviously we’re going to watch a little bit of film and how he stands, but other than that, it’s just me being myself.”

Pettis also touched on his upcoming opponent and seemed to take a jab at him, saying that after his last two performances, he really doesn’t consider Alvarez much of a challenge.

“I’m focused on Eddie Alvarez, another good fighter, (but) based on his last two performances, I’m not that impressed. If I’m in there 100 percent and I’m healthy and fight the way I fight, I don’t think he’s even a challenge.”
