Last month when Holly Holm knocked out Ronda Rousey in the main event of UFC 193, the world knew we would have to see a rematch sooner rather than later.
Unfortunately, given the extent of Rousey’s injuries, talks of a rematch were put on hold following the bout. The former champ has loose teeth that will prevent her from eating an apple in the near future, let alone taking blows to the face.
While the UFC wants Holm to sit out and wait for a rematch with Rousey, she wants to stay active.
According to UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta, ideally the pair will have their highly anticipated rematch at UFC 200 in July.
He spoke to Fox Sports:
It will be the biggest fight in UFC history. We certainly believe that as a company. I think the world will be interested in a rematch because it was a huge upset. So many people thought Ronda was just completely invincible. To see her get beat like that was a shock. They want to see if she can come back.
We’d like to make that fight happen in July at UFC 200. We’re still talking to Holly’s management team to figure out whether that works for them. We should know in the near future.
Only time will tell if we get to see this rematch at UFC 200.
