Georges St-Pierre does not want to grow old and say ‘I should have done that and I didn’t’

Georges St-Pierre, Ronda Rousey

The talk and speculation of former UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre has been floating around ever since he announced that he would be stepping away from MMA nearly two years ago. St-Pierre has been making headlines recently after opening up about some strange and upsetting incidents that happened between him and the UFC after his controversial split decision win over Johny Hendricks at UFC 167.

“Rush” spoke with the MMA Hour and went into more detail on where his mind was in regards to returning to fight once again (transcribed by Bloody Elbow):

“There are different ways of being hungry,” he said. “I still can be hungry, you can be more hungry than people who have nothing. I have so much to lose, because of my pride, the pride is my most important strength, I’m a very proud person, and I would never go back and make a fool of myself be humiliated, because I’m a very proud guy. I have so much to lose, that’s what’s going to makes me hungry, and be willing to do better than anyone, there’s different ways to be hungry.”

Aside from pride, St-Pierre faces another battle with himself in the terms of regret.

“Part of me is thinking, I have a lot more to lose than win, and another part of myself says, we only live once. I don’t want to be at 80 years old, and tell myself “I should have done that and I didn’t.’ Most of things in life that I regret, are the things I haven’t done, not the things I did, the things I haven’t done.”

Do you think Georges St-Pierre still has what it takes to be the dominant champion he once was? Or do you think that he should enjoy his life outside the Octagon, already establishing himself in history as one of the greats?
