This past weekend in the main event of UFC on FOX 17 Donald Cerrone fought Rafael Dos Anjos for the UFC lightweight championship in what was a highly anticipated rematch.
Unfortunately for Cowboy he was stopped in the first round by strikes, falling 0-2 to Dos Anjos, and having his 8-fight win streak snapped in the process.
Following the fight, he opened up about what went wrong from his perspective.
“Sometimes you just don’t show up to work and you get you’re ass kicked,”
“He put a great onslaught of punches on me. He did a great job overwhelming me,” recalled Cerrone. “Sometimes you just don’t show up, and in our profession, it’s a bad day.”
Cerrone, not one to make excuses, gave credit to Dos Anjos for the performance:
“Sometimes you just don’t show up. I don’t have an excuse. I just wasn’t there. He did a great job. He showed up and did what he needed to do,” he said.
While Cowboy generally likes to stay active, he isn’t so sure that the UFC will be calling him any time soon, but we have to disagree with him.
