On Sunday night, the UFC made its second trip to snowy Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. It did so with UFC Fight Night 105.
The card featured plenty of action. In the main event, we saw Derrick Lewis weather a bit of adversity to club Travis Browne into unconsciousness in the second. In the co-main event, we saw Johny Hendricks make a successful middleweight debut with a hard-fought decision defeat of Hector Lombard. Elsewhere on the card, finally, we witnessed the debut of Canadian prospect Gavin Tucker, a nice win from Sara McMann, a beautiful wheel kick KO from Thiago Santos, and more.
The card will also be remembered for another reason. It marked the debut of new UFC play-by-play man Todd Grisham, who shared the commentary booth with colour commentator and former fighter Brian Stann.
Early reviews of Grisham’s work seem to be mixed. Some people seemed to like his commentary, others weren’t so fond of it, and others still took a fairly neutral approach.
Apparently, however, there have been some groans about Grisham on the inside of the UFC. UFC colour commentator Joe Rogan, who was off-duty in Halifax, let this unfortunate tidbit slip on the latest episode of his podcast The Joe Rogan Experience.
“This guy is on it now, huh.” Rogan said as he and his podcast guests watched the UFC Halifax broadcast. “This new guy. People have been complaining about him.”
Needless to say, it seems not everyone on the UFC team is loving Grisham at this stage.
In addition to his work with the UFC, Todd Grisham has also worked as a commentator for ESPN, WWE, and Glory.
What did you think of Todd Grisham’s commentary during the UFC Halifax broadcast? Did you like it? Dislike it? Sound off, PENN Nation!
