Former top ranked UFC welterweight standout Mike Swick has had a bit of a career resurgence as a coach at ‘AKA Thailand’, which AKA founder Javier Mendez believes to be “the dream gym.”
The ‘Real Quick’ web series follows Swick through life in Thailand as the head coach of AKA Thailand. In the most recent episode, Javier Mendez visit the gym, where he is blown away by the fighters, the coaches, and of course the gym.
In addition, Mendez goes and spectates at Muay Thai fights, where things take a quick turn as an AKA Thailand fighter is asked to take a fight on just one-hour notice.
Following the event, the cameras follow Mendez as he teaches a seminar on footwork, and talks about how the students were quick to pick-up on the techniques he was teaching.
Swick returned to the Octagon last year at UFC 189, where he dropped a unanimous decision to Alex Garcia. Following the fight, Swick revealed that he was officially retiring from MMA to focus on running AKA Thailand.
Based on Javier Mendez’ reaction to visiting the gym, it looks like Swick is doing a pretty awesome job!
