Conor McGregor receives punishment at NAC hearing

Conor McGregor

On Tuesday morning, the Nevada Athletic Commission met to determine the fates of Conor McGregor, Khabib Nurmagomedov and Jon Jones.

McGregor and Nurmagomedov were being disciplined for the brawl that broke out after their UFC 229 fight, which also involved McGregor’s teammate Dillon Danis, and Nurmagomedov’s teammates Zubaira Tukhugov and Abubakar Nurmagomedov. The brawl sparked when Nurmagomedov leapt over the cage and attacked Danis, and continued when McGregor swapped punches with Tukhugov and Nurmagomedov inside the cage.

Jon Jones, meanwhile, was facing the music for the anomalies that turned up on several of his drug tests ahead of his UFC 232 title fight with Alexander Gustafsson. These test anomalies caused the UFC to move the entire UFC 232 fight card from Las Vegas to Los Angeles, as the Nevada Commission would not license Jones.

Shortly after Khabib Nurmagomedov received his punishment, it was time for Conor McGregor to receive his.

While Nurmagomedov was hit with a $500,000 fine and a nine-month suspension (which can be reduced to six months if he completes an anti-bullying campaign) McGregor received much lighter sentence.

He will be fined $50,000 and suspended for six months, retroactive to the date of his fight with Nurmagomedov (via MMA Fighting). Because this suspension is retroactive, McGregor will be able to fight again in April.

Do you think this is a fair punishment for Conor McGregor?
