Colby Covington (9-1 MMA) and Jonathan Meunier (7-1 MMA) squared off in the second bout of UFC Fight Night 89 in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

Covington was able to dominate round one by utilizing some solid takedowns to control the round. He landed a couple of decent shots from the top, but it was ultimately his five takedowns that gave him the opening round.

Round two begins and Covington charges forward and looks for a double leg takedown. Meunier is able to fight it off at first, but is eventually dragged down to the floor. Jonathon scores a quick sweep but after a scramble, Colby winds up back in top position. Meunier s searching for a triangle. It is not there. He tries to get up but decides to drop back down and sink in a heel hook. The submission is tight but Covington is able to escape. Covington takes the back of Jon and begins landing some solid shots. He is smothering Meunier. The Canadian is searching for a submission but cannot find one. Round two comes to an end.

Covington scored an early takedown in round three and was able to take the back Meunier. He locks in a rear-naked choke and this one is over.
