The UFC 205 fight card is starting to take shape!
Following several reports that former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman, and top ranked middleweight Yoel Romero would fight on the card, MMAJunkie has confirmed that the fight has been finalized. While the UFC has yet to formally announce the bout, fight fans can likely expect an announcement shortly.
The event, which goes down on November 12th, will serve as the UFC’s first event in The Empire State after MMA was legalized earlier this year.
Weidman will be making his highly anticipated return to the Octagon in the fight, where he will look to bounce back from his TKO loss to Luke Rockhold at UFC 194. The loss was the first of Weidman’s professional career, snapping his 13-fight win streak and ending his 2-year reign as UFC middleweight champion.
Romero on the other hand will enter the bout after serving a 6-month suspension as a result of a failed drug test. While Romero failed a drug test following his narrow split decision win over Jacare Souza, he was handed a reduced suspension after it was revealed that the failure was the result of a tainted supplement.
With UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping currently slated to fight Dan Henderson at UFC 204 in Manchester, England, the fight between Weidman, who is ranked at #2 on the UFC’s official rankings, and Romero, who is ranked at #4 on the UFC’s official rankings, could very well see the winner awarded a title shot.
