There was a media lunch today for UFC 216. It was outside the fresh air. Warm, but pleasant. Birds chirped, fruit and tea were served, it was nice. However, a can of whoop ass was also on the verge of being served before the meal even got started. Tony Ferguson was sitting at the table with Fabricio Werdum when the former UFC heavyweight champion interrupted Ferguson, then things just devolved into chaos from there. A blitz of English, Spanish and Portuguese exploded in front of the camera. Whether you can understand any of it or not, you can tell it was all bad.

Werdum said he thought about punching Ferguson "but I don't want to break everything."

“F-ck you. f-ck you. f-ck you. Shut your mouth, you f-cking f****t. Don’t talk to me like that, that’s not how it works. You can talk like that to your division but with me you can’t talk like that f****t.” —Fabricio Werdum as translated by MMA Fighting.
Who knows what this was about, but Fabricio Werdum is managed by the same person and that manages Khabib Nurmagomedov. Evidently there was already heat there, but Tony Ferguson didn’t take too kindly to being interrupted and Fabricio Werdum didn’t enjoy the way Tony spoke to him. It all blew up in a confrontation that nearly led to a fight. Even after Werdum left, Tony Ferguson was still fired up about the whole situation.
“Hey, have fun fighting on my undercard. I don’t understand you. What the f-ck are you talking about. Hey, shut up before I ankle pick you. Obviously, I’m getting to some people. Which is good. I told y’all, you’re not gonna’ like me when I get to this spot. And I said it. Bye Felicia. He’s managed by Ali Abdelaziz so I don’t know. Maybe they’re playing grab ass in the back but it’s a problem. You’ve got a heavyweight trying to pick a fight with a 155-pounder. Interrupting my speech while I’m doing my thing. It’s cool. [Fabricio Wedrum] had his time. I guaranteed he’s pissed that he got his ass knocked out.” — Tony Ferguson during and after the altercation with Fabricio Wedrum.
