On November 12, in the co-main event of UFC 205, Tyron Woodley will attempt to make the first defense of his UFC welterweight title. He’ll make this attempt opposite talented karate specialist Stephen Thompson, who will enter the cage with seven-straight wins in his wake.
In advance of this high-stakes welterweight showdown, the UFC has unlocked footage of Woodley’s title-winning knockout of Robbie Lawler from its vaults. This brief and brilliant performance can be viewed at the top of this post.
Despite Woodley’s status as the welterweight king – and his incredible wrestling pedigree and octagon-shaking punching power – he’ll enter this fight as the betting underdog. As this video shows, however, he is more than equipped to spring the upset at UFC 205, and return home with the welterweight belt wrapped firmly around his waist.
UFC 205, which marks the organization’s long-awaited debut in New York City, New York, will be headlined by a lightweight title fight between divisional king Eddie Alvarez, and reigning featherweight champion Conor McGregor. If McGregor emerges the victor in this universally anticipated encounter, he’ll become the first fighter in UFC history to hold titles in two weight classes simultaneously.
Amazingly, UFC 205’s title fights don’t end with Woodley vs. Thompson and McGregor vs. Alvarez, either. The card will also feature a strawweight title showdown between champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Karolina Kowalkiewicz – both of whom hail from Poland and boast undefeated records.
Elsewhere on the main card, we’ll see former middleweight champ Chris Weidman look to get back on track against Yoel Romero, Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone attempt to extend his welterweight streak to four with a win over Kelvin Gastelum, and former bantamweight queen Miesha Tate look to bounce back from her recent title loss against Raquel Pennington.
The undercard, meanwhile, will feature an abundance of household names, such as Frankie Edgar, Jeremy Stephens, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Michael Johnson, Rashad Evans, and Tim Kennedy.
How pumped are you for this landmark card? Who do you think comes out on top in the co-main event?
