Friday afternoon, just hours before the fighter’s stepped onto the scale for UFC 209, news surfaced that co-main event fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov had been taken to the hospital and subsequently forced out of his interim lightweight title fight with Tony Ferguson. While Nurmagomedov’s teammates confirmed that ‘The Eagle’ was hospitalized, details remained scarce regarding the situation.
Now however, Nurmagomedov’s manager has issued a statement on his fighter’s withdrawal to MMAFighting, saying:
“I feel bad for Tony and his camp, I really do.
“The most important thing right now is Khabib’s health. He’s currently resting in his room. We’re not thinking about what’s next at this time.
“I want to sincerely apologize to Tony, his team, the UFC and the fans. We were all looking forward to this fight very much.”
Stay tuned for updates as they become available!
