“I’m going to go out there and knock out Colby Covington. That right now is the fight. The UFC just called and they offered us that fight, they said Colby Covington in January. You know what I am going to do, of course, I have accepted. For the fifth time, I have accepted the fight. Right now we are just waiting on him.”
The UFC’s welterweight division just got a lot more interesting.
It was expected that Colby Covington would fight Tyron Woodley for the welterweight title in early 2019. However, there was talk that the UFC may go the route of Kamaru Usman vs Woodley, but it appears that is also not the case. In a shocking turn of events, Usman said on TMZ that the UFC has offered him a fight against Covington in January.
Although the fight has been offered, Usman isn’t quite sure Covington will indeed accept the fight. He believes Covington is scared and doesn’t want to fight him.
“Absolutely, I guarantee he says no. I think there is a 0.00001 percent chance that Dana White will make him fight,” Usman said. “Dana can make the fight if he really wants the fight. If it is up to Colby Covington, no, he is bitting his nails sitting at home saying ‘f**k what did I do… Well, guess what, you are going to fight me now, that’s all it is you are going to fight me now. The fight has been offered and I have accepted.”
If this fight does indeed happen it would be for the number one contender spot with the winner getting the shot against Woodley. However, what isn’t known is what this means for Woodley, and when he will fight next. He recently said on TMZ that he will be fighting Covington soon as he is healthy again.
Ultimately, if this fight does happen, Kamaru Usman is ready to do what Woodley hasn’t gotten the chance to do.
“I am going to go out there and do Tyron’s dirty work. I understand Tyron don’t wanna have to fight both us,” Usman said. “He wants to sit back and keep getting y’all big cheques y’all getting over there at TMZ. It is what it is. Don’t worry T, I’m going to go do the dirty work and after that, we are going to have to talk.”
Do you believe Kamaru Usman’s comments that the UFC offered him to fight Colby Covington?
