Over the course of the past several weeks, reports have continued to surface regarding the potential return of former UFC welterweight kingpin Georges St-Pierre.
Although St-Pierre had fans excited several weeks ago when he revealed in an interview that news regarding his return would be announced in a few weeks, St-Pierre then revealed in an interview that he had terminated his contract with the UFC, and was now a free agent.
Despite that, news surfaced just days later that St-Pierre was in Las Vegas, leading many to wonder if ‘Rush’ was in negotiations with the UFC brass to return to the Octagon. Around the same time, reports began to emerge that St-Pierre could be returning at UFC 206 to fight UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping in Toronto.
Bisping threw fuel on the fire when he took to social media to call out St-Pierre, saying he had signed a contract, and was just waiting on St-Pierre.
This week, the former welterweight champ took to social media with a video message for Bisping, saying:
“Nothing would make me more happy in the world to fight you in Toronto, Michael. Last week I met with Ari, and I made peace with Dana [White]. I tried to resolve things, but unfortunately, right now it’s not happening. Hopefully, things will change soon. Thank you”
Bisping and St-Pierre have been linked to a fight since Bisping won the middleweight championship at UFC 199 by knocking out Luke Rockhold. Following the win, it was reported that St-Pierre’s camp had reached out to Bisping’s team for a fight. Bisping followed up the news by calling out GSP, saying that he was open to a fight.
Only time will tell if these two fighters will ever step into the Octagon together, or if St-Pierre will ever return to the Octagon.
Stay tuned for updates as they become available.
