Fabricio Werdum explains why he kicked Edmond Tarverdyan after his fight at UFC 203

Fabricio Werdum

Former UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum turned heads on two occasions during last night’s UFC 203 event in Cleveland, Ohio.

Werdum’s first jaw dropping moment came when he started his co-main event bout with Travis Browne by throwing a flying side kick that connected.

Unfortunately for fight fans, the rest of the Werdum vs. Browne contest was pretty underwhelming.

However after the fight’s conclusion, Werdum would once again raise eyebrows when he decided to throw a front kick at Travis Browne’s coach Edmond Tarverdyan who was screaming “bad” words at Fabricio for his post-fight antics.

The former UFC heavyweight champion explained his actions at the UFC 203 post-fight press conference.

“Mom says ‘Never say bad things to nobody,”Werdum stated at the UFC 203 post-fight press conference. “He started it.”

He continued:

“He said shut up your mouth motherf***er. I just keep my distance, I don’t want to kick him, I just keep the distance, you know, he’s a boxing coach, and I see in his eyes he wants to punch my face. And I just want to keep the distance. But he comes first. He says a lot of things, a lot of bad things.”

According to MMAFighting.com UFC president Dana White said that while such scuffles obviously aren’t encouraged or condoned, he doesn’t expect there to be much made of the incident’s aftermath. Neither Werdum nor Tarverdyan will be sanctioned by the Ohio Athletic Commission.
